Professional development (professional learning) for educators has become a mundane task to ensure compliance with a requirement that serves no one other than task enforcers and is not producing effective results for the leaders of tomorrow. Our students deserve the best we have to offer and should be thought of consistently. This presentation is an introduction into a new way of alternative PD/PL that seeks to give more control to the educators who are in the classroom on a daily basis as well as open up administrators to a new way of thinking.

Entering in education I never imagined the level of boredom attached to professional development sessions. I spent eight years of my life as a trainer for a high end retailer and I saw what those meetings would do to the moral and stamina of my employees. I did everything I could to ensure I shifted the dynamic by giving them the information they needed in a way that they could receive it. Some were visual learners while others were auditory learners. Some employees needed the expectations modeled while others preferred that they be allowed to dive in and make adjustments to meet my expectations while they were hands on. This is lacking in the world of education today. I always caution the lesson when the teacher refuses to be the student.

I look forward to challenging the educators on my campus, both in the classroom and the office, to revolutionize education with me starting with professional learning (formerly know as PD).
