“Welcome to education may I take your order? Yes I’d like a #7 climate change and a coke please. That’ll be one uncompensated teacher at the next window. Pull forward.”
This is how I imagine the reference Sir Robinson made to the education system being built on the model of fast food sounding.
I completely agree with Sir Ken Robinson's assertion the education system needs to be revolutionized.
Reform is happening everywhere and most things are no longer any good. The way we once viewed the structure of the classroom is no longer viable. Our learning environments have evolved into something bigger and better than the continual sit and get methods of teacher student interaction.
We are learning in nontraditional ways as well as traditional ones. We see things differently and are able to adapt quicker if we are given the room to do so. We must get to a point in our minds where we realize and accept the change we so desperately need to our educational system is within us as educators as well as in the mind we touch daily.
Our students hold the key to aggressive reform which is why we need them involved in the learning process. We need their thoughts, input, and unfiltered ideas. It serves as a catalyst to the best days of our lives when we can see the world of education through the eyes of an adventurous child.
Resources like Dreambox, Rosetta Stone, Netflix and the like exist to allow personalization in the way of learning. Google even customizes your search experience and gives you the freedom to choose how you want to be shown information. we must begin and begin again to explore our talents as well as the talents of our students in relation to the circumstances they help create for us.
Are we creating better circumstances for our students?
We should be. Change is yesterday. Action is now.
